I played the tin whistle for him
played the flute
played the violin
played the violoncello
the organ
the saxophone
the trumpet
and trombone
he looked my way
and seeing me
looked away again.

POUPEES DANS LE GRENIER
Elles me regardent les yeux écarquillés
poupées d’antan
posées silencieuses à la file
sur un sofa en velours.
Qu’est-ce que je suis en train de faire
moi qui envahis leur espace
moi qui regarde
ces enfants irréelles .
Dans un moment
si je m’arrête
après minuit
elles bougeront
à l’unisson.
Elles sortiront de leur citadelle
elles donneront une petite touche à leurs jupes
sans montrer leur cheville
elles lèveront leurs mains gracieuses
les ongles émaillées
les doigts en porcelaine
pour étouffer la vie
des visiteurs de la nuit
non désirés
je bouge avec circonspection
vers la sortie
la rampe d’escalier en spirale
avec les marches en bois
qui m’a portée là-haut
dans le grenier.

THE SORCERER
He He He
walks runs eyes me
nonchalantly to up and down
my way the next unexpectledly
picks off one inflicts
someone on vanishing trick
on my right the list
wham mustn’t and job done
bam waste ticks off
he’s gone time my name
crunch those before
scrunch who know jogging
then whirls wait off - on
towards me their turn again
twirling his he turns now you’re here
magic stick like a top now you’re not.
turns away - throws stardust
to smite to dazzle

dogs walk out

Curled like a starfish
My daughter bites her own tail.
Brought in by breakers
She rests on a sandbank.
I watch her breath
Awash in sleep.
The moon lights
Her watery face.
Stranded in dreams
She smiles in sleep.
I paddle in the shallows
Fall and swirl
In the eddies of her hair
Moonlit and fantastic
Gathering strength
From the turn of the tide.
In the early morning
I’ll leave her
Curled in froth.

Pourquoi pas le soleil
Chaud frémissant
Et désiré
A travers les mois d’hiver
Le temps aride
Avec ses jours plus longs
Le soleil plus chaud
Qui encourage
Les floraisons
Et les idylles.
Pourquoi la lune
Froide d’argent dans l’air de nuit
Pour des déclarations d’amour
Promenades en bateau
Sur une mer glaciale
Fils de lumière étincelants
Réverbérations de
Ridements lumineux
Sur la plage
Et les visages des amoureux
Mystérieux et plus beaux
Que le jour
L’air piquant
Chauffé de sourires
Et de baisers
Non pas le soleil
Pendant qu’ils tombent
L’un dans les bras de l’autre
Evoquant des poésies
Sous la lune.
